how much did you darken/desaturate it? sometimes you need to do it a lot: like 25%-30%, which could be unacceptable aesthetically depending on what you’re going for.
other things to watch out for are high dithering settings and a high number of colors in your palette. reduce the number of colors to 128 (or 64, 32, or use “optimize to file size”). experiment with perceptive, adaptive, selective, and restrictive palette modes.
