i make audio collage, glitch art, and so on. i've been databending since the '90s, which either means i'm old-school or simply that i'm old. |
viciouslovecycle asked: Hi, I've been checking your blogposts about databending and glitch art. I'm a design student and I'm into glitch art. I'm trying to databend jpg files on windows 7 however I couldn't manage to make it. I tried it with notepad and wordpad. All of the the times the file got broken I guess. It would be great if you could tell me what I'm doing wrong.
jpgs are what i call “fragile”: they break easily. wordpad is highly destructive so you won’t have good luck using it on jpgs. notepad may work better so long as you don’t change the header (the opening part of the file that sets image size, colors, etc). if not, you can use a type of software called a hex editor.
another possibility is that you may be using the wrong program to open your bent files. photoshop, for example, generally won’t open glitched jpgs. ms paint, on the other hand, is very flexible in this regard. so try opening your files with other software.
